2017 Firefighter of the Year
Firefighter Deon Baker
|
Firefighter Baker was recognized and presented with the Firefighter of the Year Award at the February 3rd Annual Party.
This year’s Firefighter of the Year has been recognized three times as an Employee of the Month with the Quincy Fire Department; with his most recent recognition coming in April of 2017. He began his career with the department on July 9, 2007 and he has been as solid as a performer as anyone could want in those years.
He is certified as a Firefighter II, Apparatus Engineer, Hazardous Materials Technician, EMT and an Airport Rescue Firefighter. He also serves as a member of the department’s Hazardous Materials Team and Technical Rescue Team and has held both the Public Education and Risk Watch service officer positions.
He is an active instructor with John Wood Community College and with the Quincy Regional Training Facility. He has been a key player in the Department’s ability to maintain a good, working, financial relationship with Western Illinois University. When WIU calls to set-up training at the training facility, he is the first instructor that is requested.
He operates on a professional level at all times, he has earned the respect of his peers and was a unanimous decision for this year’s Firefighter of the Year. I am proud to announce that this year’s recipient is Firefighter Deon Baker.
