2013 Firefighter of the Year
Firefighter Jerry Mast
|
This year’s recipient of the Firefighter of the Year honor has really come on strong in terms of his service to the department and the citizen’s of Quincy. He is a five-year veteran of the department and is a member of the third-shift. He serves as a CPR Instructor, Public Education Team Member and MABAS 44 Hazardous Materials Team member.
This past year saw the first installment of the Citizen’s Fire Academy. The event was 12 weeks long and had 13 participants. These participants had the opportunity to participate in rope rescue, hazardous materials, CPR, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting and structural firefighting activities, to name a few. This event was created from the ground-up this year and required a lot of behind the scenes effort to make it the success that it was. This year’s recipient was an integral part of pulling all of the pieces together.
Additionally, this year’s recipient has grown into a strong firefighter. He can be counted on to fill-in as needed on shift in most any capacity. He continues to work to make himself a better firefighter.
He is civically minded, a hard worker, and an asset to this department. It gives me great pleasure to announce the 2013 Firefighter of the Year, Jerry Mast.
