Description: 
All provisions of the Municipal Code pertaining to construction, maintenance and sanitation shall apply to all swimming pools more than 24 inches deep or having a surface area more than 250 square feet.

Requirements:

In Ground Pool: The pool area shall be entirely enclosed with a fence not less than four feet high with a positive locking gate.  Gates must be kept closed and locked at all times except when the pool is in use under direct  supervision of an adult.  A swimming pool and/or fence shall not be constructed, installed, enlarged or altered until a building permit has been obtained.  The owner or owner’s representative is required to complete an application to obtain the building permit.

Above Ground Pool: A pool with a 4 foot high or higher exterior wall is not required to install a fence around the pool area. For above-ground swimming pools that are at least 4 feet high above ground level, an acceptable means of security in lieu of a fence and positive locking gate is a lockable ladder that swings up, maintains an upright position and locks in place when the pool is not in use and under the direct supervision of an adult.

Review of Application and Plans:
The City’s Building Inspection Office will review the submitted materials for the permit.  If the application and plans comply with the code, a building permit will be issued the same day of the receipt of a completed application.

Location: 
The placement of the swimming pool must meet the requirements for an accessory structure.
